El Barrio

Called simply "the neighborhood" in Spanish, El Barrio is the oldest part of Alicante and is known for its beautiful city hall, historic churches, a thumping nightlife and the unique 12th-century Cathedral of Saint Nicolas.

It's hard to imagine nowadays, but just a few decades ago the rapidly deteriorating El Barrio - the oldest part of Alicante - was known as the "bad part of town". Luckily, an optimistic and forward-looking government initiative turned that right around and El Barrio's negative reputation was soon swept out with the tide!

Alicante's government stepped in and brought El Barrio's alluring streets, brightly colored houses and intimate plazas back to their former glory, turning the area once more into Alicante's most atmospheric and beloved neighborhood. Here you'll also find the majority of Alicante's tourist and cultural attractions, the most stunning architecture, the most delightful sidwalk cafés, the cutest shops and the liveliest nightlife.

Enforex Alicante will help you get to know this beautiful part of Alicante with our City Tour, just one of the many cultural activities in the Alicante School we organize to help our students immerse themselves in their surroundings.
